A third track from Warsaw-based cellist Resina‘s forthcoming ‘Traces’ album has been premiered today via Headphone Commute, who call it”a gorgeous composition, gliding from the acoustic towards post-electronic, where genres bend in their account, creating something new and solid, then slightly fragile, mythical, and grand”.

Listen: new Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch track premiere

A second track has been revealed from London-based French pianist Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch’s new album ‘Époques’, which is due out in 4 weeks time. The track, ‘Fracture Points’, has been premiered over at Fluid Radio, with Emilie describing the track as being “born from my desire to treat the piano like the percussive instrument it is, and in doing so, to express more aggressive and anxious states of mind. I wanted the music to grow progressively darker and more intensely pulsating, the repetitive piano layers expending until the tension, the pressure, finally breaks.”

Once again we have swapped over our popular Spotify playlist with a brand new set of tracks. The latest in a regularly-updated stream, this new one is selected by Resina, who picks out a brilliant selection of choral, piano and string works, including material composed by the likes of Penderecki, Ravel and Scelsi. It’s a really deep and revelatory set that throws light on her forthcoming album, so do go and give it a listen.

Maarja Nuut & Ruum sign to 130701

We are excited to finally announce the signing to 130701 of Maarja Nuut & Ruum, an Estonian duo whose music merges violin, voice and contemporary electronics. Relocating a deep-rooted vernacular folk tradition within a restless, fractured digital present, they forge a dynamic and unique space for themselves, and sound like little else around right now.

We first stumbled upon Maarja back in March 2015, when she floored us with her performance at a FatCat-curated showcase at Tallinn Music Week, and came very close to releasing her 2016 album, ‘Une Meeles’, but for one reason or another it wasn’t to be. Happily, following further conversations over the past six months, Maarja has signed a deal with us for her collaborative project with fellow Estonian, Ruum (akaHendrik Kaljujärv). The pair have been touring and recording together over the past year or so and the first recorded fruits of their collaboration will be released later this year, alongside a full set of UK / EU tour dates.

Resina to play Unsound’s Krakow festival

Warsaw-based cellist Resina has been added to the line-up for Unsound’s Krakow festival this October. The festival runs from 7th until 14th October under the theme of PRESENCE. Also on the bill are Alva Noto, Jlin, Tim Hecker, Terry Riley, Amnesia Scanner, Ben UFO, Rabit, Christoph de Babalon + many more.

Watch: new Resina video premiered on Self-Titled

Self-Titled have premiered a new video from Resina, calling it a “mesmerizing take on post-classical music… a piece that’ll leave the hairs on your neck standing straight up….”. The video is for the track ‘Procession’, taken from the Warsaw-based cellist’s forthcoming album, ‘Traces’, which is set for release on 6th July.

Resina’s new music used heavily on Gucci catwalk

Polish cellist Resina has a stunning new album due out next month and material from it was used heavily in Gucci‘s catwalk show for their new collection. Three of the tracks from ‘Traces’ were used in designer Alessandro Michele’s spectacular catwalk for the haute couture brand, which took place in Alyscamps, a Roman necropolis in the southern French city of Arles, with a night-time display using fire and smoke. The three tracks from Resina can be heard in the opening three minutes of the video, and also between 04:00 and 06:00 minutes, and again from 06:52, 08:15 and 13:20

Resina’s second album, ‘Traces’, is due out on 6th July and you can read more and listen here.

Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch collaborates with Vanessa Wagner at French festivals

London-based pianist / composer Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch will perform a series of shows in a live collaboration with acclaimed classical pianist Vanessa Wagner at two French festivals this simmer. For the collaboration, Wagner will play piano whilst Emilie provides live electronics, similar to the role that Murcof played alongside Wagner in recent years. The pair will perform a selection of material by contemporary composers, including some of Emilie’s own compositions.

The two festivals are La Bonne Aventure in Dunkirk (23rd and 24th June) and Les Nuites Secretes in Aulnoye-Aymeries (28th and 29th July) – a rather special, secretive affair, where a small audience are taken by bus to a secret location to hear one of the potential set of performers on the “Parlours Secrets” line up.

Emilie’s new album, ‘Époques’ will be released on 130701 on July 13th.

French pianist / composer Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch returns with a brand new album, ‘Époques’, set for release on July 13th. A first taster of the album is available to hear via a premiere on Tiny Mix Tapes, who describe the album as “stunning…. rich in reverb and resonance, sublime in the language its piano articulates, limned beautifully by orchestral and electronic ambience… melodic, graceful, eloquent, compelling”.

A deep, adventurous album with a very powerful visceral and emotional edge, ‘Époques’ is a record that genuinely sees its maker finding her own space, fully formed and conclusively set aside from peers and influences.

The playlist poignantly ends with a track from Frightened Rabbit, whose singer Scott Hutchinson, our good friend, tragically took his own life a week ago.
